Authoritative American edition Car and Driver released the rating of the best crossovers and SUVs of 2017.
Each new or significantly updated car with a base price of less than $ 80,000 during the week was compared with past winners, after which each editor voted on the basis of the following criteria: cost, handling, safety and the use of high technology.
Here are ten winners of the hit parade “the best SUVs and all-terrain vehicles of 2017”. It included a full-size pickup, medium-sized pickup, minivan, and seven categories of crossovers.
10. Chrysler Pacifica
This sporty-looking minivan can carry up to 7 people (and there is an eight-seat version). Moreover, the third row in Pacifica can be occupied by passengers (boarding formula - 2 + 2 + 3) and at the same time there will be enough space behind it for luggage. Another highlight: For the first time, Chrysler used an independent rear suspension in its minivan. This allows you to increase ride and handling even on a difficult track.
The base Pacifica comes with 287 hp. A 3.6-liter V-6 engine, a nine-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.
The hybrid version is equipped with a power plant consisting of a gasoline 3.6-liter V6 engine (248 hp) and a set of 16 kW batteries. They charge in a couple of hours and with a supply of electricity, the minivan can travel up to 48 km.
9. Ford F-150
In the ninth position of the rating is a full-size pickup from a well-known American brand. Its updated version of 2016-2017 received a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine (from 365 to 450 hp) and a 10-speed automatic transmission. The revolutionary aluminum body structure makes the Ford F-150 one of the lightest pickups weighing up to half a ton. The manufacturer did not stint on chrome, it is not just a lot in the car, but a lot. So, the middle element of the bumper is completely made of chrome. The car is very comfortable, in the front seats there are massage and electrical functions in 10 positions.
8. Honda Ridgeline
The mid-size pickup SUV is characterized by comfort, practicality and good driving performance. In the atmospheric 3.5-liter V-6 engine, 280 horsepower is “hidden”. From 0 to 100 km per hour, the Ridgeline accelerates in just 6.6 seconds. This is faster than the latest versions of the Toyota Tacoma V-6 and Chevrolet Colorado V-6.
7. Mercedes-Benz GLS
The seventh number in the list of the best crossovers and SUVs is a full-size crossover with a 3.0-liter V-6 engine of 362 hp. Its assembly, driving dynamics and space saving are beyond competition, according to experts from Car and Driver. The gearbox of this crossover is 9-speed automatic with manual shift mode. Thanks to the air suspension, ideal stability and controllability of the machine are achieved at full load.
6. Audi Q7
The basic updated version of the mid-size premium crossover is offered with 252 hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. A more advanced version is equipped with an engine of 333 hp. Transmission eight-speed automatic with manual shift mode. From 0 to 100 km per hour, the car accelerates in 5.5 seconds. The pride of this car is a huge number of entertainment and support systems, including an adaptive cruise, a virtual panel, a traffic jam assistant and a three-dimensional speaker system.
5. Mazda CX-9
A car from the mid-size crossover segment with a spacious interior, high-quality assembly materials and an elegant exterior with narrow taillights, an aggressive bumper and an enlarged spoiler. There are two versions: front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. Under the hood is a 2.5-liter turbo engine with 254 hp.
4. Porsche Macan
Compact 5-seater premium SUV with a "sports" accent. The GTS version accelerates to 100 km per hour in 4.4 seconds thanks to its 360 hp at 6,000 rpm. The base model of the Porsche Macan is more modest, only 252 hp. (2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine). All trim levels include: rear-view camera, parking sensors, 8 power seats, cruise control, heated front seats, three-zone climate control and 8 airbags.
3. Honda CR-V
The compact crossover is always in the top 10 best-selling cars in America. It combines spectacular dynamics, the beauty of the interior, safety and confident behavior on the road. The basic version is offered with an engine of 190 hp, a continuously variable variator, full power accessories, cruise control, air conditioning, a steering wheel tilted to the driver, a CD player, panoramic cameras, an audio system, Bluetooth and an audio and telephone connection.
2. BMW X1
A subcompact premium SUV with front-wheel drive, transverse engine and front-wheel chassis, which is very different from other offers of the brand. And this is one of the few compact crossovers with a truly spacious passenger compartment and a versatile cargo compartment. The engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged 228 hp, an eight-speed automatic transmission with manual shift capability.
1. Kia Soul
The first place in the list of parquet SUVs and SUVs of 2017 is occupied by a subcompact crossover that combines visual appeal with practicality and an attractive price.
